Elk City / Oklahoma

Dr. Kamran Massoumi, MD, is an ophthalmologist and the owner and president of the Oklahoma Eye Institute and Omni Surgical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Born in 1967 in Tehran, Iran, he was raised in a family with significant political and medical backgrounds. His paternal grandfather was a high-ranking military officer and politician, having served as the Minister of Agriculture during the Shah’s regime. On his mother’s side, He is a direct descendant of Iranian royalty, with his maternal grandfather being only three generations removed from the King of Iran. Despite his family’s political connections, it was his grandfather’s legacy as a pioneering ophthalmologist that inspired Him to pursue a similar career. His grandfather was a trailblazer in Iranian ophthalmology, establishing the country’s first ophthalmology department and leading efforts to combat the trachoma pandemic that caused widespread blindness. By age five, this legacy profoundly influenced He, who had already decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. He aspired to dedicate his life to improving vision care and significantly impacting the field, just as his grandfather had done. In 1983, during the Iran-Iraq War, Dr. Massoumi moved to the United States with his mother and younger sister. They settled in Marin County, California, where he quickly adapted to his new life, learning English and adjusting to American culture. After completing high school at Marin Catholic High School, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a double major in Medical Physics and Middle Eastern Studies. His hard work and dedication led him to be accepted into St. Louis University Medical School, where he earned his medical degree with distinction in research. Following this, He completed his ophthalmology residency at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. After finishing his residency, Kamran Massoumi initially planned to return to California. However, he was presented with a unique opportunity in Western Oklahoma, where there is a significant shortage of ophthalmologists. In 2002, he joined the BVA practice and stayed in the region, inspired by his grandfather’s commitment to public service. Over the years, He introduced state-of-the-art technology, expanded services, and played a vital role in transforming eye care in the area. In 2014, he founded the Oklahoma Eye Institute, which brought retinal and plastic surgery specialties to the region. Today, he continues offering advanced treatments for cataracts, glaucoma, and other vision conditions, providing local patients with high-quality care without traveling to larger cities. Recognizing the need for local surgical facilities, Dr. Massoumi opened the Omni Surgical Center in Lawton and an office-based operating room in Elk City. These centers have helped alleviate the travel burden for patients requiring surgical care, ensuring they receive necessary treatments without leaving the region. His long-term vision is to continue attracting more ophthalmologists to Western Oklahoma, providing the area remains self-sufficient in vision care. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he enjoys a fulfilling personal life. He is married and has two daughters, both accomplished in martial arts and share a passion for Taekwondo. The family holds black belts, with his youngest daughter attaining a second-degree black belt. He also enjoys traveling and has participated in medical mission trips, including one to Vietnam, where he performed eye surgeries to help restore vision for those in need. Dr. Kamran Massoumi’s work has impacted the availability of ophthalmology services in Western Oklahoma. His efforts have ensured that the region is self-sufficient in meeting its vision care needs, and he continues to expand access to high-quality care for his community. Through his dedication to advancing eye care, He remains committed to making a difference in the lives of his patients and furthering his legacy in the field of ophthalmology.
