And the first one he serves since he perished. His own son who outsmarted and escaped him and even then he can't even get him to give in to the pressure. It's really interesting that while this did deviate from the source material, Where in King's material the father in spirit redeemed himself and closure and peace was made, Kubrick's has that darker tone to where even in death and cursed to servitude to the overlook, although Jack is given details into what happened post overlook events, he has no remorse for his actions and with what little restraints the overlook might have on him at this point let's Danny have it. I wonder if this is the outcome he thought was going to happen. I love how The Shining coordinates with Doctor Sleep! Two completely different plots, but it connects back with the protagonist!
