It's about the ABILITY in disability. Three very different women have voluntarily set up a benevolent institution to teach cooking, nutrition and kitchen skills to children, teenagers and young working or work-capable adults with a disability to assist their social inclusion and independence. Penelope Herbert's expertise is in marketing, media, public relations, strategic marketing, event management, social media and fundraising. She has spent over 20 years working in these areas in government, corporate and not-for-profit. Penelope is a seasoned public speaker, seminar facilitator and published author. Adele Fragnito has a son with an intellectual disability and OCD who she has taught to cook since he was seven; he's now 27 - and a very good cook. Adele has her own hairdressing salon but she was a television Master Chef finalist; she's an awesome cook. Michele Colmer is an inspirational speaker who has lived with an ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) for 30 years after she was hit by a car when she was two years old. Michele lives independently and is an accomplished public speaker. She's also a disability advocate and MOD's Ambassador. These three women have very different backgrounds and skill sets and are committed to the social inclusion through cooking of people with low level disabilities across ABI, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Paraplegia, Spinal Injuries, Autism, Aspergers, Deafness and Low Vision, and related. Known as The MOD Squad, Penelope, Michele and Adele are developing a cookbook for use by anyone with a disability and plan to raise funds to build a commercial teaching kitchen for people with a disability. This will also have a catering arm that will employ people with a disability. The MOD Squad are also on Facebook www.facebook.com/ManyOpenDoorsFoundation - and Twitter @ManyOpenDoors - Cook*Include*Exceed - please join them there too.
