Jose's research efforts are supported by the National Science Fund (NSF), where he directs projects such as "AI-Ready Data Products to Facilitate Discovery and Use." This project explores the potential capabilities of a future National Secure Data Service (NSDS) to enhance the accessibility of statistical data for AI applications, aiding federal agencies and their partners in leveraging generative AI responsibly. Before his entrepreneurial journey, he was deeply embedded in academia. He served as Senior Advisor and Co-founder of Powerlytics, where he contributed intellectual property. This firm provides comprehensive, anonymized IRS data on U.S. companies and households. He also spearheaded the Berkeley Charter of Professional Accountancy (BCPA) as an Adjunct Accounting Professor at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, where he received the 2015 Notable Contribution to the Accounting Literature Award. Earlier in his career, he was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Fox School of Business at Temple University and an Assistant Professor of Economics at SUNY Buffalo. During his time at SUNY Buffalo, he co-founded the Journal of Human Capital. Educationally, he has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, a Bachelor of Science in Management Science from MIT Sloan School of Management, specializing in Information Systems, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a minor in Mathematics from MIT.
