I am a writer, development worker and newspaper columnist who draws on her development experiences for inspiration in her writing, and remains an unrepentant idealist. I have worked for non-government organisations/non-profits in Bangladesh, Britain and Africa, as well as with the United Nations, and the Grameen Bank, famous for pioneering collateral-free loans to poor women. My work has appeared in magazines, anthologies and websites in the UK, US, Canada, Singapore and Bangladesh. My story "Judgement Day" was awarded Highly Commended in the 2010 Commonwealth Short Story Competition, and another story placed second in the Oxford GEF Short Story Competition held recently at Oxford University, and judged by the British writer and journalist, Bidisha. http://www.commonwealthfoundation.com/Howwedeliver/Prizes/CommonwealthShortStoryCompetition/2010highlycommended My short fiction also features in the recently published anthologies The Storm is Coming (Sleeping Cat Books, USA), Curbside Splendor Issues 1 and 2 (Curbside Splendor, USA), "Woman's Work: Short Stories" (Girl Child Press, USA), "The Monster Book for Girls" (Exaggerated Press, UK), "Journeys" (Sampad, UK), "The Rainbow Feast" (Marshall Cavendish, Singapore), “What the Ink?” (Writer’s Block, Bangladesh) and "From the Delta" (UPL, Bangladesh).
