Charles Douyon is an accomplished legal and compliance professional with over 12 years of experience in financial regulations. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he developed a strong interest in sports early on, particularly basketball and football. His high school years in Long Island saw him refine his athletic abilities, learning the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and focus—qualities that would play an essential role in his career. After high school, Charles enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston. Still, after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, he decided to transfer to Berkeley College in New York to be closer to his family during a difficult time. At Berkeley, he pursued a degree in Business Management and Finance, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. This academic achievement laid the foundation for his dual focus on business and law as he entered the professional world. Charles’s career began in finance, working for a well-regarded financial institution on Wall Street. He gained valuable insights into financial markets, investment strategies, and business operations in this fast-paced environment. However, after several years, he realized that his growing interest in finance-related legal matters led him toward a career shift. Motivated by this realization, he pursued a law degree and transitioned into the legal field. 2007, Charles left the finance sector and enrolled at Northwestern University School of Law. Transitioning from finance to law was challenging, but his background in business management gave him a unique perspective on legal matters, especially in financial regulations. He graduated in 2010, just as the financial industry underwent significant regulatory changes after the Global Financial Crisis. To expand his expertise in financial law, Charles pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) at Fordham University Law School, specializing in Corporate, Banking, and Finance Law. During his studies, he gained practical experience through internships at key regulatory bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). These internships helped solidify his understanding of financial regulations and gave him valuable insights into regulatory compliance and enforcement. Over the years, Charles has held various legal and compliance roles, advising investment firms and financial institutions on navigating the complexities of financial regulations. His expertise includes a deep understanding of key regulations such as the Dodd-Frank Act, the Securities Exchange Act, and the Investment Advisers Act. His ability to interpret these regulations and offer practical solutions has made him a trusted advisor to many firms striving to maintain compliance and avoid legal risks. In addition to his advisory work, Charles has held leadership roles, including serving as Director of Compliance at a prominent investment firm. In this role, he oversaw the firm’s compliance programs and ensured all activities adhered to legal and regulatory standards. Charles enjoys sports outside of his professional life, particularly basketball and football, which he enjoys recreationally. He has also developed a passion for endurance sports, completing the Chicago Marathon and several half-marathons. Traveling is another of his interests, allowing him to explore different cultures and broaden his perspective. He also enjoys live music and has a particular fondness for Chinese cuisine.
