A native Houstonian, Jo had careers in the field of business law, teaching computer classes, designing web sites, advocating for children abused in foster care, and special education advocacy. In 1976, at the age of 16, while leaving a church in Tarboro, North Carolina, Jo became one of Mack Ford’s many victims. Although Louisiana extended statutes of limitation for 30 years beyond the age of 18, a victim must be under the age of 48. Louisiana does not have a statute limiting prosecution for rape. Mack W. Ford and staff he hired remained in business and for over 30 years, continuing sexual molestation, trafficking, and extreme physical abuse of children in the care of New Bethany Homes for Boys and Girls. The first location in Arcadia, LA, remained open before and long after, the authorities in DeSoto Parish closed down Longstreet NB Home for Boys, the state of South Carolina closed down the Walterboro NB Home for Boys, and AL ran Ford out of town. No one can understand Bienville Parish Sheriff’s office and the District Attorney’s refusal to act on abuse, repeatedly reported and verified by the Louisiana Department of Social Services against Mack W. Ford.
