Observations by the Exhausted Educator on American’s Choices and How They’re Affecting Our Children An introductory letter to my readers Dear reader, WHY ANONYMOUS. What I CAN tell you about myself is that I’m an American, an educator, a parent, and in my 40s. After much debate, I decided to keep my identity a secret so that I can freely write about how I truly feel without hesitation and without fear of the fallout that could (and very likely would) occur if friends and family knew who I was. We (my husband and I) tend to have a highly diverse mix of close friends, acquaintances, and loved ones. They range from extremely liberal, to highly conservative; from very religious to very not. While I love them all and respect our differences, it’s for that reason I choose to stay anonymous so as not to alienate any of them or change their feelings towards our relationships. WHY I WRITE. I write only about issues that bug me. Some are serious, some light-hearted, and others highly controversial. While there’s very little chance you’ll agree with everything I say, there’s a good chance you’ll agree with some of it. That’s why I’d ask that you read with an open mind and with the understanding that I don’t say the things I say out of hate or anger, but out of genuine concern, sometimes a little frustration, and (mostly) the hope that what I say can help put a human face on everyday issues. I also hope that because we as Americans have become so polarized over so many issues, that the things I write will help curb the extremes and bring those who read them to a more central understanding of the issues. I’ve learned the hard way to take my stances based on more than just how I was raised or what I see in the media. As an educator I’ve seen how the “popular” choices people are making are affecting their children. It’s changed the way I see the issues, and I hope that through these articles, it’ll affect the way you see them too. My final hope is that people will begin to stand up against the wrong things that are happening in our society. Too often we stand on the sidelines and assume we can’t do anything about the problems in this country. Actually, I’ve been doing the same thing for years and that’s why I decided to start this blog. It’s not a lot, but it’s my small way of speaking out for what I think is right, and to encourage others to do the same. The plan is to post a new article before noon every Sunday. Hopefully the ideas will keep coming so I can make that happen. So read, enjoy, and (if you feel inclined) share these articles with your circle of influence. I’d also love to hear your comments and feedback, but please…be kind.  Sincerely, The Exhausted Educator
