tangogod
The title to my blog is not to denote that I am in fact a tango god, just a way to promote my goal. If I am lucky, it will not take more than the rest of my life to achieve this goal. I decided to start this website / blog in hopes that others who are just learning to tango will have another source of information to help guide them though the somewhat frustrating beginnings of learning. There are a lot of things to expect, and some of them really suck, more for the leads then follows. About me, I am attempting to become a strong lead, I live on the west coast moving between Seattle and the bay area all of the time. I was almost 40 when I started learning tango. It has taken me almost a year to get to the point where I am very comfortable at the milongas. Believe me, if I can do this, so can anyone. Tango is so much more than a dance, it is a project, built on the experience of an entire culture that has taken more than 100 years to create. Unlike ballroom dancing, tango doesn't have any patterns, and as far as I can tell, the rules are, feel the music, feel your follow/lead, and feel the other dancers around you. Dance only with what you feel. If you are going to learn to tango, forget everything you think you know about dancing first. Tango will bring out a passion and an emotional rush in you like no drug can when you do it right. I am going to borrow a quote from a friend to try and explain this:”Tango is 4 legs, two heads, and one heart dancing together. If you don’t get this, you are not doing it right”.
