Auckland, New Zealand

Hello and welcome to sunispalate. I am Sunita Fernandes nee Colaco the name and face behind this blog. I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my husband and two children (or rather young adults I might say). I was born in India, lived in Dubai for 14 years and then moved to this beautiful land of Aotearoa, New Zealand in 2003. My blog is about my love and passion for food and hence the name “sunispalate”. I wasn’t looking to create a blog with any specific cuisine but rather to document my culinary experiments coupled with a bit of storytelling associated with the dish. You will find a myriad of recipes to tingle those taste buds and satiate the palate. The blog, I must admit is a team effort. I wouldn’t be able to do it without my family. The credit for the visual execution of my ideas, the plating and the clicks would have to go to my husband (Maurice) and my daughter (Paige), both who are very creative and absolute perfectionists. My son Joshua makes every effort to provide me with the best of ingredients especially the International / not so common ones (from his workplace which sells gourmet foodstuff). And last but not the least, my family are my biggest critics; this keeps me challenged😊 I grew up in a family where food played an important part. My mum didn’t just restrict herself to cooking Mangalorean cuisine but introduced us to all kinds of food. She, together with my aunts who were very good cooks, were my inspiration. My sisters too have been my support and have always encouraged me. I truly believe that my love for cooking is a God-given talent and gift. I love sharing recipes and I had been mulling over the idea of a blog for a wee while so I could share my recipes with a wider audience and inspire others to cook. Then in June 2014, my daughter set up the blog for me as a birthday present – a very sweet gesture, I must say and that is where it all began. Your feedback means a lot to me so please drop in a line in case you try out any of the recipes or just drop in to say “HI”. You could follow the blog by providing your email address and you will receive an email each time I post a recipe. I hope you enjoy your walk through my blog and happy cooking!!!
