God’s word teaches us to live our lives as if we were building an altar to Him – stone upon stone, day by day. To do so we must do our “best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15) Deut. 27:5-8. “Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool upon them. Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. Sacrifice fellowship offerings a there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.” The point of building this altar of stones was so the Israelites could remember the law – the very words of God.
