My name is Emily and I am the first ever President of Lower Moreland High School’s Buddy Club. When I was in ninth grade, I was telling one of teachers about all of the volunteering that I do and because she saw my love for helping others, she recommended that I join our school’s Buddy Club, a club for helping and being a friend to the Life Skills students in the school district. I was a member of the club all four years of high school and still am involved in the club even as an alumni buddy. After only two months of being a buddy, the club changed my life forever and confirmed my career path of wanting to become a Life Skills teacher. In eleventh and twelfth grade, I was elected as the first ever Buddy Club President. Being Buddy Club President made my love for the special needs community grow even stronger and that year, I declared Buddy Club as my happy place. In twelfth grade, I started and managed a Facebook page for Buddy Club. After graduated high school in 2016, ownership of the page was transferred over to the next Buddy Club officer since I was no longer Buddy Club President. As a result, I missed spreading awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of special needs publicly on social media other than doing so on my personal private accounts. So in April 2017, I started my own special needs advocacy blog for posting about my continuous experience with Buddy Club as an alumni buddy, other volunteer experiences with the special needs community, advocating, and life as an (aspiring Life Skills) teacher. I love Buddy Club so much and even in college, I am still very dedicated to the Life Skills students. Besides Buddy Club, I also volunteer for Horizons, a special needs group run by a church in my area, and Autism Cares Foundation and am very close friends with a girl with special needs that I have been friends with since childhood long before my passion for special needs developed. In addition, I am currently an online student at Bucks County Community College majoring in Early Childhood Education and will eventually go onto getting my Bachelor’s degree in Special Education to pursue my dream job of becoming a Life Skills teacher. I want to start out as an infant teacher, TSS, Direct Support Professional (DSP), and then, a paraprofessional. I also work at Children of America (COA) as an assistant toddler teacher to eighteen to twenty four month old babies. My credentials are my Child Development Associate (CDA) certification and I am four classes away from my Associate’s degree. I love all children and people with special needs and of all abilities. I am so excited that you have decided to join following my blog dedicated to my continuous experience with Buddy Club as an alumni buddy, other experiences with the special needs community, love for my favorite cause, and journey of becoming a Life Skills teacher! If you ever have any questions for me please always feel free to message or email me and/or leave comments and I will always try my best to answer ASAP! I would love to hear from anyone and look forward to you being a part of my social media journey for my favorite cause!
