By way of introducing myself: My home base is in Wisconsin and has been for most of my life. I have visited and worked in many parts of the world. My paychecks have come from the both the corporate world and academic worlds. In both, I have witnessed and experienced great kindness and great cruelty. Now I work for myself. My politics lean left–fairly far left actually. My dad was a union truck driver and my mother was a “stay at home mom.” We always had enough materially, though it got very tight at times. I am the eldest child in my birth family in which there were four children. I am newly married to my partner of twenty-three years. Of course the marriage is not legal in my home state, but we are happy for June’s Supreme Court decisions, and what is about to come. We have two grown sons. By “we” I mean their biological father, their father’s wife, and my wife. I gave birth to these two, but their father and other two moms also get to take credit and blame for how they have turned out. I am very interested in conceptions of morality and standards of moral behavior. Just about all of my blog posts will touch upon these in some way. Sometimes I’ll just make observations about things that amuse me, or move me. I will, I admit, talk about my own behaviors that have been, are, and will be less than moral by any standards, even my own. I try not to be holier or moral-er than thou. Still, sometimes it may seem I am. I apologize ahead of time, and will likely apologize more along the way. I do not believe it is possible to be perfectly moral, even if one is setting her own moral standards.
