I’m a dinghy sailor and a sailing mum. It’s a fascinating, sometimes chaotic world of wind, water, and friendships. When my boys were small, I longed to be back on the water, to feel the sun on my skin and the pull of the sail again. A simple goal-setting exercise “I want to race my boat again” ended up changing my life. It wasn’t that I stopped loving motherhood; I just missed the freedom of the sea. So I found a way to do both, by getting the boys sailing too. Before long, they were growing up fast, competing in Grand Prix events and qualifying for RYA National Junior Squads. We towed the trailer across Europe, made lifelong friends, and watched them stand proudly on podiums at National, European, and World Championships in the RS Feva class. Those years shaped everything, my writing, my outlook, and the stories I now tell. Observations of a Sailing Mum is my place to share those reflections and the world that inspired my novel Sailors. My adventures continue now they have grown.
