Alessandro Ratoci is a composer, performer, and educator in electronic music. Born in Mugello, surrounded by the tranquil Tuscan countryside, he refined his craft by immersing himself both in academic circles and the underground electronic music scene, striving to maintain a delicate balance between the two—with varying degrees of (in)success. He earned diplomas in piano, composition, and electronic music from the Conservatory of Bologna before pursuing advanced composition studies with a focus on live electronics at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva under the guidance of Michael Jarrel, Luis Naon, and Eric Daubresse. In 2014, he participated in the Cursus composition program at IRCAM in Paris with Hector Parra and Mikhail Malt. Notable collaborations include partnerships with soloists such as Luca Nostro, Antonio Politano, Stefano Malferrari, Paolo Ravaglia, Florentino Calvo, Robert Fleitz, and Enzo Filippetti, as well as ensembles like ICTUS Trio, Alarm Will Sound, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, and the Orchestre de Radio France. His compositions have been featured at prestigious events including the Ravenna Festival, ManiFeste in Paris, Milano Musica, the Missouri Composers Festival, the SMC Season in Lausanne, and the Festival Nuova Consonanza in Rome. Among his accolades are the Franco Evangelisti Prize (2022), a special mention at the Prix Luigi Russolo, the Luigi Nono Prize (2019), and the Amici della Musica di Cagliari Prize (2015). His recorded works are published by Miraloop® and EMA Vinci, and his scores are edited by SZ SUGAR. In the field of theater composition, he has collaborated with renowned Colombian-Swiss playwright Omar Porras on productions such as 'L'éveil de Printemps' (2011) and 'Roméo et Juliette' (2013), which were presented at the SPAC Festival in Shizuoka, Japan. Driven by a passion for research and education, he taught electronic music performance and improvisation at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne from 2007 to 2015. He is currently a full professor of Electroacoustic Composition and History of Electronic Music at the Conservatory of Piacenza and an active member of the CantiereZero collective in Trieste, Italy.
