poetofthepinebarrens
I lived in the Long Island pine barrens of Suffolk County from 2000 to 2011. During that time, I roamed about of 13,000 acres of open space, preserved land. As a poet and naturalist, I made observations and notes. I have a strong, intimate connection with the natural world. I owned a one acre residence, my home base, in Manorville, New York. I called the place Synapse In The Core. The rural character of the area is in sharp contrast to the high density of housing to the west. Inthis quiet, serene atmosphere, I had time to write and reflect. I hope that this volume of poetry will encourage other poets to consider creating poetry about their community and/or ecosystem.
