I have worked on Carnival Cruise Lines for almost 2 years now. My life is totally that of the sea. I spend 6-7 months on board one vessel, take a break for a couple months back home and then head out to the open ocean once again. When I first started for Carnival, I was working as an Associate Art Auctioneer for Park West Gallery. I was selling art during art auctions valued at upwards of $60,000. Park West Gallery represents various successful artists and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the artists and their specific style of artwork. However, during my time on board with Park West, I began to wonder if I would be happier with a position in the Entertainment Department. Therefore, I wasted no time and interviewed with the Cruise Director for an Activities Director position and by my next contract that’s exactly what I was doing. I have been working as an Activities Director now for a year and a half and most recently (in the last 6 months) I have taken on the role of Punchliner Comedy Club Manager. I can honestly say, I love every minute of it! I am responsible for setting the comedian schedules, welcoming them aboard, setting up the Comedy Club each night, emceeing the comedian introductions (I’ve got some great jokes), tracking the guest attendance to the shows, and finally reviewing the shows in order to approve the comedians for rehire. I’v worked with comedians from all over the United States and have most enjoyed learning all different styles of comedy. I mean, who doesn’t want to laugh at work? Among my two years on the open seas, I’ve worked on the Carnival Legend, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Fascination and most recently, the Carnival Spirit. Therefore, I’ve been to Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman, Key West, all over Mexico, Canada, all over Alaska, and most recently I’ve added Hawaii to the list. It always a plus when you can spend your days off lounging in a cabana by the ocean. Although my sea legs are strong and I’ve completely morphed into the cruise lifestyle, I feel as though it’s time for a change. Which is why at this point in my life, I am ready to once again live on land. Currently, I am looking to make a big move to Chicago and am looking for jobs in Chicago in a marketing capacity. I am entirely grateful for working for Carnival and I don’t think I’ll ever fully close the door on going back to cruise life but as for now, I am most excited for my future in Chicago.
