Michael J Gunn is a writer and historian who has for many years specialised in researching the social anthropology of the medieval, renaissance, and post-renaissance periods in Europe and elsewhere, with special emphasis on the creation, development and history of clan-based social systems. Trained as a specialist photographer of ancient manuscripts, papyri, incunabula and other early rare books, his work entailed travelling extensively throughout Europe, visiting many of its historic archives and special libraries, during which he was given privileged access to many of the most notable rare book and archive collections. This has given him an unprecedented insight into historical writings and narratives from many perspectives. He is the author of twelve technical and historical works, and the manuscript of his latest book has just been completed. The result of more than thirty years research into its little-known subject, it is an historical dictionary of the Albanian tribes, clans and families. He has been an active member of the Executive Committee of the Anglo-Albanian Association (AAA) for many years, and has many friends and acquaintances among the Albanian community in the UK, the Balkans, and the greater Albanian diaspora. His extensive research has gained him international recognition among Albanian historians and scholars and in 2012 he was awarded Tirana’s Albanian Institute of National Affairs’ 'Certificate of Honour'. Michael J Gunn is married and lives in London. He has a son and a daughter, both grown-up and very successful in their chosen fields.
