Libertarian atheist and poet. In my youth I was a Marxist because I had an idealistic belief that the world could and should be made better for lots of people who were victims of exploitation, violence, prejudice and unfairness generally. Having seen the terrible failure of communist regimes and the appalling human suffering that has gone with that I have realised that attempts by governments to control the economy are bound to fail, and the more they attempt to plan things that are not capable of being planned, the more they resort to tyrannical methods to force everything and everybody to fit their model. The communist experiment has cost tens of millions of lives and we must try to ensure that it never happens again. I now wish to see as little involvement of the state in the lives of citzens as is possible in a society where we do have a government that ensures the rule of law and protection of citizens from invasion and crime.
