Kym Pokorny, a communications specialist for Oregon State University’s Extension Service, writes a weekly garden story that appears in newspapers throughout the state. She also freelances for The Digger, a magazine published by the Oregon Association of Nurseries. Before joining EESC, Kym worked for The Oregonian newspaper in various positions, most notably covering gardening, horticulture and the Oregon nursery industry. She has served on the board of the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon and the Garden Writers Association Foundation. An avid gardener and plant nerd, Kym learned her love of gardening growing up on her family’s nursery in Northern California. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, running and cooking.
