I'm a change-of-career literacy specialist who wants to make a difference. I don't like textbooks and scripted instruction because I believe that if a teacher truly knows his/her students, it is possible to naturally create life-long learners. What I do may not be understood, may not be popular given today's political dominance over education, but it's vitally important if we are to have critically-thinking adults from my region participate in the globalized 21st Century.
