I was awarded the 2015 Margarita Prize for Prose for a story called “Photograph,” featured in Calyx Journal's Fall 2016 (29:2) issue. Before that I taught English on a university campus for 16 years. I have a passion for ballroom dancing and read as much as time allows. Never without pen and paper within reach, I often get up in the middle of the night to jot down ideas I don't want to slip away with the approach of daylight. Those notes frequently find their way into my writing and some have been published in Recovering the Self: A Journal of Hope and Discovery, and in Colored Chalk. I was a finalist in another contest and have gleaned two honorable mentions, and an essay called “Something of Value” was published in Drunk Monkeys (Feb. 2016). My children and husband maintain a low profile, hoping to keep themselves in the fine print on a back page in some obscure, forgotten, or mislaid text. Sometimes that works - sometimes it doesn't.
