Mike Alsup

Senior Vice President and Founder of Gimmal Group. We provide professional services for enterprise content and records management. This blog includes my observations about the world of content and records management and the responsibility for its content is mine. I started focusing on the management of documents at Arthur Andersen & Co when I joined the Consulting Division (later Accenture) in 1976. Since then, I have been working with my clients and my laptop to convert one document or process at a time. My assumption is that almost 0% documents were digital in 1980 and almost 100% will be digital in the future, with a much broader definition of "document", but an imagineer's work is never quite done. For me, this column is my attempt to help do something that is infrequently seen in the MBA and consultant-driven world of ECM. It is my goal to contribute to make our industry a better place, and in so doing, to enable people who are coming into the industry to have the same opportunities that we had. In the rapid hire-and-fire world of ECM and the Internet in the 1990’s and 2000’s, there was/is no more retirement from a position. People come and go, both involuntarily and for new opportunities. The landscape of our markets is constantly shifting. If there is continuity in the ECM industry beyond the rolodex of an individual, it is through our association with each other. This blog is my online contribution towards that goal. Comments and scathing remarks are always welcome.
