kibale2012
I'm a retired teacher working with the Kassisi Project in southwestern Uganda. The project provides assistance for teachers and students at 5 primary schools at the edge of the Kibale Forest, the site of the Kibale Chimpanzee Project. Dr. Elizabeth Ross directs the Kassisi Project and her husband, Dr.Richard Wrangham directs the Kibale Chimpanzee Project. The school system I worked in (Weston, MA) started an exchange program for teachers, so we have the opportunity to visit and learn from one another. This will be my 3rd trip. My part has been to help with the fundraising to build a preschool (done!) and to begin some assistance for children with special needs. I began teaching in 1972 and worked in early intervention, preschool and middle school. I also have a second MA in expressive arts therapy, am the mother of three kids and work with energy healing as well. The most exciting part of this year's trip is that my daughter, 29, will be with me and work in the schools and may also do some work with health education. Ananda has been teaching secondary students with significant learning, emotional and behavioral challenges. This past year she completed the prerequisite courses for nursing school and will begin the program toward nurse practitioner in September at the University of British Columbia. She is also trained as a first responder and outdoor educator. After a month at the schools we'll go on safari. So with this brief introduction as context, in 48 hours we are done with preparation (??!?) and the travelling from here to there begins. Join us! Chris and Ananda
