I'm a dual citizen of Canada and the United States after emigrating with my wife to Canada in 1971. I was born in Minneapolis and raised on a Minnesota dairy farm, served four years in the U.S. Navy, obtained a degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota and worked as a reporter and editor in Chicago and Detroit before going "back to the land" in British Columbia. My wife and I own nine acres of mountainside above Kootenay Lake in British Columbia and a funky little house we built ourselves. Have two grown children, both now living and working in Nelson. I'm retired from Selkirk College in Nelson, where I worked in student services, and am now a full-time writer. I have a memoir called Leaving the Farm coming out this spring from Oolichan Books, a small B.C. publisher.
