Jennifer regards herself as an apprentice writer. She has been driven to write by the inevitable crises of life, and now that she's older she has the courage to commit herself to writing and to devote time to practising the craft. Jennifer has been involved in music throughout her life, mainly as an oboist. The discipline of music practice helps her to be a disciplined writer. Jennifer is working on an historical novel based in Woodend, a town about 50 km north west of Melbourne, where she used to live. Jennifer's work in educational research has enabled her to visit some out-of-the-way places in parts of the Middle East and Africa. She writes about some of these adventures on her blog, Little Smackerel, located on her website. The blog also contains short fiction and reviews of plays, concerts and films. Jennifer spends most of her writing time on the novel, but has written a few short stories. One was published in 21D and another is to appear shortly in an anthology. Some nonfiction has been published and she has been awarded a couple of honorable mentions in competitions. Jennifer was a founding member of Elwood Writers, formed about 8 years ago and she treasures the advice and support from her Elwood Writers colleagues.
