Dr. Chuck Callahan is an active duty military officer with more than a quarter century of service. He has spent nearly fifteen years in positions of leadership within the military health care system including hospital department chief and member-at-large of the hospital’s executive committee, chief medical officer of the military’s largest medical center, chief executive officer of one of the largest community hospitals with responsibility for the construction of a billion dollar, million square foot plus replacement facility, and most recently the chief operating officer of one of the largest medical centers in another uniformed service , helping to coordinate the largest integration and merger in military health care history. Dr. Callahan is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has received numerous teaching awards and has lectured broadly on leadership and “the culture of excellence” in medicine. He is the author of more than one hundred abstracts, articles, books and book chapters on leadership and medicine, and has been awarded more than two million dollars in research grants. He and his wife of more than thirty years live with the youngest of his seven children in Maryland.
