At the beginning of this century, I was teaching in a 1000+ secondary school, holding various middle-management posts and scouring the frontiers of the National Curriculum for areas where I could do things in the classroom that I actually believed in. After 30 yrs of teaching, they were getting harder to find. Even A level Philosophy was becoming model essay memorisation. So I "retired", did some supply teaching to pay the bills and started with the Workers' Educational Association, lecturing in Philosophy, which led on into "Have data projector, will travel"...all over the SE of England. But my parents, in their 90s, are "forgetting things and doing things twice", so we're off to Cornwall to look after them...sometime this autumn.
