I was diagnosed in 2011 with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome. I was also diagnosed with Fructose Malabsorption around the same time. Having diagnosis spurred me to research these two uncommon conditions that are also not well known to many health professionals. Both of these conditions cause chronic pain at various levels, are hard to understand and manifest in different ways in different people. Learning how to manage my life, my pain, my limitations and celebrate my abilities is an on-going challenge. Previous to my downturn, I was a fit outdoor professional who climbed mountains, ran, skied, swam, cycled, hiked, rock climbed. Though I had dealt with the symptoms of these two conditions most all my life, it was when I turned 35 yrs old that they flared up to leves causing debilitating pain in my body. It was then I spent over a year on a journey through the medical system in search of diagnosis. I am so thankful for the diagnoses that have helped me learn about a diet that makes a difference (but does not completely solve my issues) and about management techniques for my joints (which also doesn't solve, but rather minimizes my issues). Living with pain and limitation is a day to day experience. Chronic pain can fluxuate subtly sometimes and dramatically others with little explanation. I'm so grateful for my husband who is patient and supportive always. I'm also grateful that God sees fit to keep working inside me to mysteriously help me move toward more acceptance of my reality and willingness to keep on living.
