My name is Gene and I'm a retired soldier here on WordPress mainly for the conversation. I love to talk politics, environmental, national, and international issues, as long as the dialogue stays on-topic and away from name-calling. I'm a conservative, but not a Republican (they've disappointed me too many times). I believe in protecting the environment (I have a bicycle instead of a car and I recycle everything that I can.), but still have my reservations about global warming, at least of the man-made variety. I have little athletic talent, but love baseball (St. Louis Cardinals) and football (Chicago Bears). I like most forms of music (most rap and opera being the exceptions). I love classic movies like "The Philadelphia Story" and "Casablanca". I'm a fan of action/adventure movies like the Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider series, fantasies like "The Lord of the Rings", and science fiction movies like the Star Wars series. My favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Alistair MacLean, C.S. Forester, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allen Poe, and Clive Cussler. I love reading, so this list could go on forever. I can't count the times I've spent an entire afternoon getting lost in an old bookstore.
