Since 1999 I have worked in the high-tech world of realtime closed captioning. I was the first voice captioner to go on the air on a regular basis, captioning rapidfire news programs in realtime. I helped to develop voice recognition technology into uses it was never designed for. But this is only the beginning of my lifelong journey to push humanity, and hopefully myself, off this planet. No one said it better than Konstantin Tsiolkovsky: "The Earth is the cradle of mankind, but one cannot live in the cradle forever." Since 2007 I have met with astronauts, engineers, and other NASA and NASA contractor personnel, corresponded with many who have worked in various space programs over the years, and written both fiction and nonfiction in an effort to inspire people to look beyond the here and now and to push beyond the boundaries of our current problems into a more hopeful future. The only thing standing between us and a better world is us.
