22 has always been my lucky number, so perhaps it is no coincidence that at this auspicious age I am embarking on what promises to be the most exciting, mind-opening and potentially life-changing year of my life so far. Having recently finished the exhilarating (and exhausting) rollercoaster experience of a four-year Classics and Ancient Persian degree at Oxford, I am entering the world with only vague and contradictory ideas of 'what to do next'. Feeling confused and above all very culturally naïve (having never ventured further than eastern Europe before), I have decided the best thing to do is get out and see as many far corners of the world as I can cram into a year of travelling. In doing so I hope to meet some interesting, perhaps inspiring, people, gain a better understanding of my own criteria for enjoyment and maybe figure out some clues to my future along the way. I hope these blog entries will provide an adequate record of my journey for anyone interested, along with (hopefully) some insights into the countries and people I come across.
