Cos Chapman
Biography Cos Chapman began his working life as an Oceanographer. Throughout this time he experimented extensively with sound, using modified reel-to-reel and self-built devices; after 12 years he went to Lancaster University to study Music, Technology and Theatre. While there he began to pursue his interest in cross art-form collaborations and soundtracks. He went to Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge as an Associate Lecturer gaining a PhD, his portfolio of compositions includes work for piano and "tape", live processing of soprano saxophone, video, theatre, dance and installations. His soundtracks have been heard on Resonance FM and at national events including the Manchester Short Film Festival, Newcastle Vain Festival, Sonic Arts Network Expo! in Manchester, Thames Tideway Project, Anna Chen's Taikonaut . He currently works as a freelance musician, performing regullaly with Rude Mechanicals (punk-cabaret) and Teaching Music in Hackney. Most recent work includes: a sound designs for Soho Theatre's Moonwalking in Chinatown, and Westminster Prize (08 and 09), workshops for the Young Vic's community programme, and Southwalk Playhouse's production of A Mid Summer Night's Dream; in 2007 he directed a performance of Cardew's Treatise as part of the Scratch Sextet; he has performed live improv for Recluse club nights and for SPNM at the Luminarre and enjoys a regular slot performing at Kettles Yard's (Cambridge); his installations have included collaborations with Joanne Roberts at ACAVA's Cramer Street Studios and Angela Last for World Ocean Day at The Foundry.
