I'm a native Houstonian, but was stationed in Washington State near Mt. Rainier for several years. I fell in love with that beautiful place, but never climbed it. Now, I have a mission that is moving me to the 14,411 foot summit. My grandson, Benjamin William Lohmer, Jr. died on January 7th, 2012 at the age of 2 years, 1 month, and 28 days from a horrible disease called Leigh's Disease. Leigh's is a mitochondrial metabolic disorder, which kept Ben from ever crawling, seeing, hearing, having reasonable body control. He was such an angel while he was with us, and he's certainly an angel now. But that disease doesn't have its own big walk, bike ride, run, ribbon, or much of anything to bring attention to it. My goal is to raise at least $10,000.00 for the Mitochondrial Center of Excellence at Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston, where Ben received incredible care. All I'm asking is for people to pledge $10.00 for each 1,000 feet of Mt. Rainier - $144.11 is all. Please join me in supporting these great physicians, researchers, nurses, and others as they take care of little kids!
