Lawrence, KS

Cathy Ledeker is a noted calligrapher, accomplished watercolorist and award-winning professional artist who maintains a studio in Lawrence, Kansas as well as in Creede, Colorado. She has been featured in 18 one-woman shows nationally and around the world. Her work hangs in many private and corporate collections, including the Nature Conservancy, Kew Royal Botanical Gardens and the Smithsonian Institution. She has done work as an artist and calligrapher for the Kansas University Endowment Association. In 2005 she was commissioned to paint the lobby mural in the historic downtown Kansas City Public Library in Kansas City, Missouri. The mural -- a large, 9 x 11 ft panel -- was created to look like a medieval illuminated page including gold leaf, intricate penmanship, and illustrations and designs for the 50-plus names it contains. While establishing her distinguished career as a professional artist, Cathy also has taught popular painting workshops nationwide for more than 25 years. Cathy continues her role as Art Director at Van Go, Inc., a program for at-risk students in Lawrence, Kansas. Cathy is a clear, relaxed teacher who concentrates on follow-along style demonstrations and personal attention to help her students find and develop the courage to create powerful, unique works of art.
