Carlo Altomare is founder and Artistic Director of The Alchemical Theatre Laboratory in New York City. He is a theatre artist (director and actor) and composer. His main instrument is open piano, on which he plays the strings with mallets, picks, etc in addition to the piano keys. He worked with The Living Theatre for 10 years in the 70's, acting in all the pieces of that time as well as composing the musical scores. He is the founder of The Alchemical Theatre acting company which was first active in New York in the 80's, producing among other pieces, the world premiere of Artaud's "There Is No More Firmament." He is an expert in Meyerhold's Biomechanic physical acting technique which he teaches in NYC, as well as his own approach to acting called "Jazz Acting."
