Ann Williams grew up in Chadderton, near Oldham in Lancashire, and later studied zoology and oceanography at Swansea University. Up to now, part of her career has been spent in education teaching primary school children, followed by her work with early years children with special needs to give advice to nurseries and schools to ensure their needs were identified and addressed. Her most rewarding years were when working alongside health service professionals with children aged 6 months to 5 years old. She has worked in various parts of the UK from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire to East Lancashire, where in later years she worked as Special Educational Needs Coordinator for Burnley and Pendle. Art has always been one of her driving passions. Recurring themes of her paintings include landscapes, animals and nature including flowers and songbirds in a variety of mediums including pastel, watercolour, oils, acrylics and mixed media. But more and more she has been drawn to the mysterious- a sort of dream world of fairies, elves, wizards, hobgoblins, and witches. Perhaps it is not surprising that witches feature so frequently in her art. Her interests are in art, gardening, swimming, photography, reading, writing, archaeology, astronomy, wildlife and her pets. Now back home in her native Lancashire, she lives in a converted coach house in the shadow of Pendle, an eerily haunting hill where, in various shapes and forms, witches-strange, spooky beings of the night –are said to abound.
